Our first Year 10 Chemical Reactions
1. Magnesium reacting with oxygen:

Method: We held a strip of magnesium metal in the hottest part of a bunsen burner flame till it caught fire. We didn't look directly at the reaction because (safety reason)
Observations:
1. The magnesium metal was a grey, shiny and flexible.
2. The magnesium burned with a very bright white light.
3. After it burned it was a white powder.


The word equation is: Iron+ Sulphur = Iron sulfide

The balanced chemical equation is: Fe + S = FeS

2. Iron filings reacting with sulphur:

Method: We mixed equal amounts of iron filings and sulphur then used a magnet wrapped in paper to separate them. We mixed them again and added the mixture to a test tube and heated strongly.
Observations:
1. The iron filings were dark, grey and powerish
2. The sulphur was neon, yellow/ green powder
3, When we heated the tube it let off a smell of rotten eggs
4. After the reaction a clump of black/ grey stuff

My Art Brainstorm, What I Care About

My most inspiring print maker is Kathe Kollowitz  and my favourite piece of work from her is this piece of artwork right here. This is my favourite piece because the artist used some really interesting techniques. The marks that she has made draw your eyes into the corner of the page which makes the bottom corner of the page

 Käthe Kollwitz  (German, 1867-1945): Death and Tragedy.
Facts about Kathe Kollwitz.

1. At first, Kathe chose the naturalism style to depict her works. But then she changed her style into the expressionistic style.
2. Let’s talk about Kathe’s place of birth. She was born in Königsberg. The city now is called Kaliningrad, Russia. She was born with the name Käthe Schmidt.
3. Her talent as an artist was seen when she was a kid. Her father realised her talent and supported it. He wanted her to have drawing lesson. At that time, Kathe was 12 years old.
4. Many people believed that Kathe suffered from anxiety and a childhood neurological disorder.   Her mind was affected a lot by the death of her siblings.

This is my progress on my artwork for this term, i have added charcoal, paint and newspaper to my work.

Drawing Techniques.

In art we are learning about drawing techniques. We are learning how to use them and we were starting to use paint to highlight the background. 

Techniques in Charcoal.

Last lesson in art we used charcoal and white pastels to make pretty things.
We used techniques such as smuding, rubbing back and erasing.
